The Scaldwell Parish Council has the right to nominate two trustees who serve for a period of four years.  Other Trustees are co-opted for a period of five years.  After paying the expenses of the charity the Trustees are to apply the income towards the relief of persons in need who are resident in the Parish of Scaldwell. They may also make donations to other organisations which themselves provide services for people in need in the village.  The Trustees should also pay for the holding of the annual Bread Service.  At the end of the year, if there is spare income then this may be used for projects for the benefit of the village.

The Bread Service

Thomas Roe lived in Scaldwell in the 17th century.  He was obviously a churchman and a great benefactor.  Apart from financing the gift of bread to the poor of Scaldwell, he was the instigator of several charities,  both here and in Brixworth,  to further the education of the inhabitants of the two villages. In his will he stipulated that bread should be distributed to the poor of the parish,  a thanksgiving service be held and a sermon preached every year on the 5th December, his birthday, failing which the charity should cease.  An application was made to the Charity Commission in 1988 to change the date of the Service  from the 5th December to the nearest Sunday to that date.   The Service and distribution of bread has been continuing for over 300 years.
