Burns Night Comes to Scaldwell

Scaldwell Village Hall turned into a little piece of Scotland on Saturday 24th January. Some 35 people enjoyed a super Scottish feast prepared by June Keir and Karen Pirie. We were treated to smoked salmon pate, before the haggis was ceremoniously paraded around the hall and toasted with a dram of fine Talisker whisky or Drambuie (We did provide a zero-alcohol whisky but it was truly horrible). Served with neeps and tatties (swede and potatoes) the haggis proved very popular. Finally, a delicious Tipsy Laird was served.
Fortunately, given the amount we had eaten, there was an opportunity to dance some traditional Scottish dances. These were attempted with a great deal of enthusiasm but, with some notable exceptions, precious little skill. The folks in the bar were inspired to hold up judges' signs with marks out of 10 and they weren't flattering.

All in all a very jolly evening and we look forward now to the St Patrick's celebrations in March!
