Scaldwell welcomed the season of Advent with the putting up of the Christmas Tree on the Green on a cold but thankfully dry Saturday 2nd.
The tree was a substantial one and the team of volunteers were very grateful to have mechanised assistance from Michael Alcock; no-one wanted to put their back out this close to Christmas!
We had extra lights this year and the team carefully put them on, making sure that there were no dark gaps in coverage.
And in the evening, there was the great switching on of the lights, ably done by the two youngest attendees. Slightly more than 30 villagers enjoyed singing some well-known carols before returning home to warm up.
It really is a splendid tree.
Many thanks go to everyone who contributed to this event: the Parish Council for funding the tree and the extra lights this year; Mike Alcock for deploying farm equipment to help lower the tree into its stand; Rob Kelleher, Rich Wilson and Martin Kelly for putting the tree up straight and adding lights; Tom Joyner for producing carol sheets. A great team effort.
